IAACN Review: Vaccines and Immunization
This year's clinical nutrition meeting was controversial to say the least. It was on the topic of vaccines and immunization and how to cope with any damage which results. It is impossible to summarize 4 days of lectures but I will share a few of the insights here.
Firstly, due to a court case regarding smallpox vaccination over a century ago the Supreme Court established the precedent that the government has the power to force adults or children to submit to vaccination or to pay the penalty for refusing to do so.
Secondly, the vaccine industry is allowed to dispense with well-established scientific standards like the use of placebo-controlled trials. (The placebo used for the flu vaccine is the previous year's vaccine rather than an inert saline solution.) The industry has also been allowed to violate basic ethical norms such as fully informed consent.
Thirdly, the CDC regularly assured the public that vaccines are universally safe and arbitrarily rules out any adverse effects occurring after a few days.
By contrast, the Supreme Court has ruled that vaccines are inherently unsafe in order to shield manufacturers from liability for injuries caused by vaccines, so that victims are required to receive vaccines but do not have the right to sue for damages in court as would be the case with every other industry.
The basic problem is consensus. Vaccines are regarded as safe and effective by almost all of the medical and scientific communities as well as a large part of the general public. This is in spite of a growing body of scientific evidence to the contrary. The news media have chosen to refrain from any discussion of problems with vaccines for the most part and most physicians vaccinate their own children with the same vaccines they administer to their patients.
