All Cause Mortality
Polyphenols and Longevity
Long ago NeoLife realized the importance of carotenoids and polyphenols and has been instrumental in bringing together scientists who study these important nutrients. A Spanish research group published a study in 2013 which found a 30% reduction in mortality or deaths on older adults who had the highest intake of polyphenols in the diet. This study was unique in that it did not rely on dietary questionnaires but actually measures the polyphenol content of the urine.
The study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, followed 807 adults over 65 years of age for 12 years. NeoLife products containing polyphenols include Vitamin C, Flavonoid Complex, and Tre.
This is a study of what has been called "all cause mortality." Decreasing the chances of dying young is one of the most promising aspects of a nutrient.
Medications and All Cause Mortality
Oftentimes one will read studies of something like a medication which touts wonderful benefits. Many medications, however, increase all cause mortality rather than decreasing it. A recent study reported that a wide range of medications have an anticholinergic effect which increases the risk of cognitive impairment by 46% over 6 years. A chart which allows one to tally up the total ACB or Anticholinergic Cognitive Burden has been developed. Each one point increase in the ACB scale has been correlated with a 26% increase in the risk of death over a two year period in at least one study.
