 Glyphosate Contamination

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in RoundUp herbicide. It is widely used in GMO crops (Genetically Modified Organisms) like soy and corn. Simply choosing foods that are non-GMO may be deceptive, however. Glyphosate is commonly sprayed on sugar cane, wheat, barley, and oat crops  as a powerful desiccant. These crops are dried to prevent mold contamination.
A recent testing of Quaker Instant Oatmeal (Strawberries and Cream) contained 1,327 ppb (parts per billion) glyphosate weed killer. This is one of the highest levels of contamination of any food so far tested. Oats are not a genetically modified crop. Glyphosate residues have been implicated in kidney damage, inhibition of liver function, and some digestive disorders.
To avoid glyphosate residues in these crops it is best to look for organic sources of the grains.
