NeoLife was perhaps the first company to realize the importance of the cell membrane to life and health. The following is a discussion of the cell membrane as discussed by scientist David Steen: "Imagine a house without walls or a horse without a hide. Could you get along without your skin: Could a bottle of water exist without the container or a package without its box or bag? ...I am just thinking about the critical importance of barriers that keep the insides in and the outsides out....So why is it that the gossamer-thin cell membrane (also known as the plasma membrane) gets so little respect or appreciation for its vital structure and function? ....Membrane structure is relatively simple, consisting of two layers of phospholipid with a collection of various proteins embedded or floating in the phospholipid matrix....The important point is that without a functioning cell membrane, no work would be done or energy processed, and thus no photosynthesis or cellular respiration--no life. Life as we know it depends on the integrity of this simple boundary."

The Cell Wall
NeoLife knew way back in 1958 that phospholipids were both essential
for life and also often inadequately supplied in the foods that people
were eating. This was the basis for the development of Tre-en-en and the
supplements subsequently built around it like Formula IV and
ProVitality+. Don't overlook the importance of this critical nutrient in
your supplement program.
Steen concludes his discussion as follows: "While mature mammalian
cells get along fine for three or four months without a nucleus,
mitochondria, ribosomes, Golgi bodies, or endoplasmic reticulum, they
won't last a second without their plasma membrane."
Defects in cell membranes due to phospholipid deficiency or excesses of
inflammatory fats and deficiency of omega-3 fats underlie many modern
degenerative diseases.
