Pomeganate Polyphenols

A recent study found that pomegranate combined with water soluble vitamins reduced prolonged fatigue. The study focused on chronic fatigue and supplemented test subjects on pomegranate juice and vitamins B and C for one month. Alleviation of fatigue resulted in significant improvement over the period and the supplements were well tolerated. One ounce of Tre from NeoLife contains the active factors from the equivalent of 20 ounces of pomegranate juice without the sugars that would be present in 20 oz of pomegranate juice.

Much study is being done on polyphenols found in Tre. These studies suggest that these compounds reduce oxidation of fats in the body including cholesterol, lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, benefit blood pressure due to improved functioning of nitric oxide, improvement of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract, reduction of inflammation in the body, and anti-diabetic effects.

Flavonoid Complex also contains many polyphenols.

Pomegranate and Heart Health

The above study did not mention pomegranate as a source of catechins, but it is rich in these important substances as well as many other important nutrients. A recent article recommends pomegranate as a dietary supplement "for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases." In addition to a wide range of cardiovascular benefits, the article also notes that pomegranate has antimicrobial, anti-cancer, and antioxidant benefits. NeoLife Tre is a 20-fold concentrate of pomegranate punicalagins in addition to the benefits of compounds from berries and tea. Here is a quote from a recent article on pomegranate compounds:

"Pomegranate, an ancient and highly distinctive fruit, is a rich source of natural bioactive constituents. Various studies showed that pomegranate and its products exhibit protective effects on the cardiovascular system. These vasculoprotective effects include diminishing of oxidative stress, positive influencing macrophage-, endothelial cell-, and platelet function, lowering lipid oxidation, reducing blood glucose levels, vasodilatory effects as well as decreasing blood pressure via an inhibition of ACE activity. In light of the altogether promising outcome of numerous pre-clinical and clinical studies, pomegranate is advocated to be used as a dietary supplement for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, thus representing a supplementary non-pharmacological therapy for cardiovascular diseases.

Plant Extracts and Flu

A recent study looked at aronia (chokeberry), green tea, pomegranate juice, and elderberry. All inactivated influenza virus. Only the chokeberry decreased infectiveness of Covid-2. These were test tube studies. Work needs to be done to see if these anthocyanin compounds are helpful within the body. Researchers from pharmaceutical firms are looking at combining plant catechins with zinc as a possible treatment for Covid. Many plant extracts have anti-viral activity. If you have not tried NeoLife's Tre, a blend of powerful polyphenols and anthocyanins, you should do so. It has a wonderful taste as well as powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It can also bypass the blood-brain barrier and benefit brain functioning.

Pomegranate Polyphenols

Pomegranate contains a rich supply of polyphenols, many of which have inhibitory effects upon various cancers. A fairly recent review article noted that pomegranate had anticancer effects in test tube studies, in living animals, and in clinical trials. Anti-cancer activities included fighting the proliferation of cancer cells, inhibiting the spread of cancers (metastatic properties), and inhibiting invasive activities. The research summary discusses the role of pomegranate in breast, prostate, lung, colon, skin, and liver cancers. The article concludes, "All parts of the fruit were reported to have therapeutic activity including anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherogenic, anti-diabetes, hepato (liver) protective and antioxidant activity, etc."

 Autophagy & Mitophagy

Autophagy literally means "self eating." It is a process which goes on in the cell when an individuals goes without food for a period of time. The cells produce enzymes and useless material within the cell is directed into sacks of enzymes to be digested and broken down into new building materials which can then be used to rejuvenate and repair cellular damage. The discovery of how autophagy works was awarded a Nobel prize.
Recent research has shown that the phytonutrients in pomegranate promote autophagy in the mitochondria where energy is produced in the cell. This slows the aging process and reduced the risk of diseases associated with poorly functioning mitochondria.
The article below states, "Mitochondrial dysfunction underscores aging and diseases. Mitophagy (mitochondria + autophagy) is a quality control pathway that preserves mitochondrial health by targeting damaged mitochondria for autophagic degradation. Hence, molecules or compounds that can augment mitophagy are therapeutic candidates to mitigate mitochondrial-related diseases.... In this study, pomegranate extract (PE) supplementation is shown to stimulate mitophagy."

A Unique Pomegranate Compound
Pomegranate are rich in beneficial compounds including punicalagins, ellagic acid, and ellagitannins. One recent article said, "Recent research, mostly based on in vitro testing, has shown preliminary evidence of the anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, antiglycative, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects of urolithins, supporting their potential contribution to the health effects attributed to pomegranate and ellagitannin-rich foods." Urolithins persist in the body for up to two days after consumption.
Ellagitannins are metabolized by gut bacteria into urolithins which are readily absorbed into the bloodstream. Urolithins are only beginning to be studied. We know they have potent antioxidant activity. These compounds have been shown to reduce inflammation in the colon and to reduce the risk of colitis and colon cancer. They also can reduce inflammation of the nerves.
Most amazing of all is the ability of pomegranate juice and its urolithins to protect and preserve mitochondria and promote the process of autophagy. This has been shown to promote heart health and to slow the process of aging which is associated with degeneration of the mitochondria. Urolithins preserve both muscle and energy producing mitochondria as we age.
This writer fell in love with NeoLife Tre from the day it was introduced. One ounce of this beverage delivers the phytonutrients available in 20 ounces of pomegranate juice (without the sugars) as well as many other beneficial substances found in green tea, acai, and many other berries. This research on urolithins is only the beginning of understanding the benefits of this wonderful product.
Tre contains not only 20 times the punicalagins of pomegranate juice, but also 5-10 times the resveratrol of red wine, 7 times the antioxidant power of tomatoes, and 6 times the alpha-lipoic acid of fresh spinach. The ingredients include pomegranate, acai berry, green tea, blueberry, black currant, cranberry, elderberry, red grape, white grape, and bilberry.

 Pomegranate and Diabetes

Diabetes is epidemic in the United States and increasingly around the world. In the first study of its kind consumption of pomegranate juice concentrate or a polyphenol extract from pomegranate was shown to decrease oxidative stress among diabetic patients by 35%. Numerous other diabetic measurements were also positively impacted by the pomegranate extracts including an improvement in HDL or good cholesterol. The pomegranate extracts had no significant impact upon blood sugars despite the fact that the concentrate was 10% sugar.
The researchers concluded that these positive changes "could lead to retardation of atherosclerosis in diabetic patients." Heart disease is a major killer of diabetics so this information has immediate application.
In a different study of young people with metabolic syndrome, a prediabetic condition, pomegranate juice significantly improved blood flow within 4 hours of consuming the juice. The researchers suggest that foods high in polyphenol content be recommended for obese individuals.
In other studies pomegranate juice has been shown to lower blood pressure and to improve erectile dysfunction. It may even have a role in preventing or treating obesity.
The NeoLife Tre product is a super concentrate of pomegranate polyphenols. Consuming one ounce of the juice is equivalent to consuming 20 ounces of whole pomegranate juice. The Tre is not limited to the benefits of pomegranate as it contains a wide variety of other polyphenols from foods like acai, green tea, resveratrol from grapes, and extracts of bilberry, blueberry, black currant and other foods.

Pomegranate and Prostate Cancer

The National Cancer Institute notes in their web site that pomegranate polyphenols have been shown in both animal and human studies to slow the growth of prostate cancer cell lines, increase the time it takes for PSA levels to double, and induce cell suicide or apoptosis in prostate cancer cells.          There were no adverse effects with the administration of 8 oz. of juice for up to 33 months.
One ounce of GNLD Tre contains the polyphenols one would obtain from drinking 20 ounces of pomegranate juice without the sugars that would be consumed with that much juice.

Pomegranate and Prostate

A study was conducted on 48 men who had been treated for prostate cancer with either surgery or radiation. They were given 8 ounces of pomegranate juice a day. Pomegranate juice lengthened the time it took for PSA levels to double from an average of 15 months to 54 months.
Test tube studies revealed a 12% decrease in proliferation and a 17% increase in apoptosis of cancer cells. Apoptosis is a scientific term for cell suicide. In other words, the polyphenols in pomegranate juice increased the tendency of cancer cells to commit suicide.

The researchers also discovered that the tendency for oxidation to occur decreased significantly. The researchers suggested that pomegranate juice may help slow the growth of prostate cancer in patients who have been treated for the disease.

A sidelight of this study was a 23% increase in nitric oxide. Nitric oxide works like viagra for erectile dysfunction. A separate study found that 47% of subjects experienced improvement in erectile dysfunction while consuming 8 ounces of pomegranate juice a day.

Since one ounce of GNLD Tre provides the polyphenol equivalant of consuming 20 ounces of pomegranate juice I would like to hear more stories of those who have tried the product for these problems.
