Antimicrobial Action of Polyphenols

 The antimicrobial activity of polyphenols and flavonoids is often overlooked by the average individual. These substances have the ability to inhibit the formation of biofilms which is one of the means that bacteria protect themselves from immune attack. Biofilms are like fortresses which can lock out immune cells and antibiotics. Polyphenols also have the ability to interfere with the ability of microbial invaders to attach to cells and invade them. Finally, polyphenols have the ability to neutralize bacterial toxins. They can improve the effectiveness of antibiotics and may prove a way forward where many bacteria have developed resistance to antibiotics.

The catechins in tea are very powerful antimicrobial agents. The polyphenols in berries inhibit harmful bacteria in the digestive tract but are not harmful to the beneficial lactic acid producing bacteria. Some polyphenols can center the membrane of the cell and exert antimicrobial activity within cells. Polyphenols possess anti-bacterial, anti-viral and also anti-fungal activity. Infection Protects

 A recent study out of the Cleveland Clinic reported that if an individual had a previous infection with Covid-19 vaccination did not appear to provide any additional protection or benefit. The conclusion and summary of the research is as follows:

Conclusions 
Individuals who have had SARS-CoV-2 infection are unlikely to benefit from COVID-19 vaccination, and vaccines can be safely prioritized to those who have not been infected before.
Summary 
Cumulative incidence of COVID-19 was examined among 52238 employees in an American healthcare system. COVID-19 did not occur in anyone over the five months of the study among 2579 individuals previously infected with COVID-19, including 1359 who did not take the vaccine.

Efforts to immunize those who have recovered from the infection are motivated more by pharmaceutical profits than by science. The immune system of recovered individuals according to this analysis provides substantial protection against repeat infection.
